Floor wood

I’m going to make new floor panels. Is there a favorite wood product to use?

Marine grade plywood, 5-ply is preferable for weight distribution. PLEASE use a flame retardant material on them after fabrication. This is required per FAR 23, as well as the old CAR-3 that our aircraft were manufactured under. Polyurethane sealers are sure pretty, but NOT flame retardant. Search Amazon.com for 'No-burn original' and give them several applications.

And be very careful about the thickness. This can affect you at the juncture between the horizontal piece and the piece that angles up, and also affect the total weight of the floorboards.

I had Aeroplus Interiors (at KHOU) make my new floorboards. They specialize in interiors, and not just for business jets. I had a choice between 5-ply mahogony (very expensive!) or 5-ply maple (more affordable). I chose the maple. It is the same material they use on jet interiors, with all the proper FAA paperwork and logbook entries. The new floorboards and carpet look fantastic.
