Changing a generator to an alternator in a Cont E185

I would love to change the generator on my A35 to an alternator. I am hangered at C75, Lacon, IL. Is there any good mechanics in the area that have knowledge and expertise in doing this? Would also love to change out the wobble pump to an electric fuel pump.

1. The Plane Power STC is an affordable and easy alternator upgrade for E series engines.
2. You have to keep the wobble pump and fuel selector, but it is possible to add an electric boost pump. I am not sure who owns that STC now.

I have installed three Plane Power (now Hartzell) alternator conversions. All easy. Their regulator is a good one.

If your A35 airplane has the original "plunger" type wobble pump you can install the later "lever" type which is a much better to use pump. No STC required since it is covered in the A777 TC under item 111(d). Salvage yards would be the place to get a later style pump.

Is there still a STC for the Dukes electric fuel pump?

The last time I looked the number was disconnected for the gentleman that holds the STC.
Maybe one of our members has a better contact.

As I have stated here and on the BT site about the Plane Power (PP) alternator; when making the installation it is best to abandon the field wiring for the original generator and install new wiring and move the regulator to the forward side of the firewall at an accessible location. The other wires to the original VR would be spliced together in a workman like manner and the poorly chosen spot for the original VR above the co-pilots rudder pedals not used for the new VR. A new toggle switch is installed on the instrument panel for the field circuit of the new PP alternator. When I installed mine I also did away with the master relay coil wiring going through the ignition switch (G35) and installed another toggle switch adjacent to the new alternator field toggle switch.
The PP VR is very sensitive to voltage and the voltage drop through all of the very old generator field wiring and connections will/may not allow the new PP VR to work properly.
