KX 155 Failing Display

I have a KX 155 Nav/Comm radio with the usual failing gas discharge display, it was workable, but now is not, I have posted before, I found this service on the web, has anyone used it? https://www.kx155display.com/product/kx-155-display-oled-replacement/

I understand that the service is located in Belize, there are only 5 customer reviews.

Hey David,

My only concern is what is the approval basis for this repair here in the US. To legally repair and return to service a radio, you must be the manufacturer or a Part 145 Avionics repair station with bench repair of that particular model on your capabilities list. I'm not questioning whether or not the repair is adequate, but only the legality of it.

I am concerned about that, the price is very low compared to Mid-Continent, ~800 versus 3K. How would I find out if they meet the Part 145 repair requirements?

You would have to call or email them and see if they can provide an FAA 8130-3 form for their repair.

I would also request a photcopy of their repair station certificate. I'd then contact your local FAA FSDO and inquire of them the legitimacy of the repair station certificate.

And it looks like they might be claiming this to be legal according to AC23-27. Unfortunately, if this is the case, it does not qualify since the original displays are still available, even though at a rediculous price.

I would be very careful about this repair. The only KX155/165 displays available are aftermarket and non-certified. A guy at my home field bought one for his Long Eze and it lasted 6 months. $800 down the drain. He is a retired Lockheed avionics engineer, so it wasn’t an installation issue. I am very (very) happy with my GNC 355, for what it is worth.

Honeywell has come out with a direct slide in replacement for the kx-155, it is a KX 200. Availability limited but should be available soon.
