Belly strobe on J35... Can it be permanently removed?

We have the instrument panel and much of the interior torn out, upgrading the avionics, and removing all of the old cruft from the years. Cleaning up the exterior, removing and replacing old or unused antennas, streamlining airflow, and replacing exterior lights with LEDs (tail light, top beacon, wingtip nav lights, wingtip strobes, and landing lights). On the belly of the aircraft there is a an older strobe (white). It works, but seldom use it, and it protrudes obnoxiously from what is otherwise a clean underbelly. It turns on and off with a breaker and works separately from the main topside beacon. Is this original equipment or something that is required? My preference would be to remove it altogether.

I know what you are talking about.

I replaced mine with a rotating beacon.

Why, because I did not want to have to patch the hole in the belly.

If you have something else to put there, such as a storm scope antennae, that would work.

I do not think it is necessary.

It sounds like you have an upper beacon and have replaced all of the position lights with LED systems. The lower anti collision light may be removed.

Thank you Tom and Bob, exactly what I was hoping to hear. It will get removed, and will continue to clean up the airframe.
