Firewall air control slides out (closes) on climb. G36

I just noticed that the firewall air control cutoff knob slider auto-closes during takeoff/climb on my G36. It's the far left red knob (yellow on the 2008 model...) Basically the cable seems to be too slippery and there does not appear to be sufficient friction to keep it open (in), and the knob travels back toward the breakers (out), auto-closing the firewall air control. Is there supposed to be a spring or something in place to retain it in open (in) position unless closed? Any suggestions on how to create additional friction? Where would I look in front of the firewall? Thanks.

Just posting an update... After testing my system, it turns out that there is no issue here! The slider was moving about 1/2" during climb out...but I have to confess I didn't realize that the full deflection of the slider was closer to 4"! So basically the knob was moving slightly, but likely just with slack in the cable, and only with proper force would the slider (and therefore the lift gate) operate.

Great job on the follow up info. Sometimes just a little research helps out.
