air conditioner fan

I have an 1995 A36. There is one air conditioning switch, just on and off. I also have a fan blower switch, off, low and high. When I just turn on a/c switch no cool air is blowing and have to turn the blower to high for cold air. Nothing seems to come out with a/c on and blower switch in low position. Should the a/c be blowing with just the a/c switch in the on position and the blower switch off? Thanks.

Wiring diagram attached.

With AC on and blower switch off or high, you should get high blower. With blower in low, you should get low. From what you describe, I would suspect an open in wire H28B16, H27B16, H29B16, H29A16, noise filter FL1, or the red wire from FL1 to the blower motor. In troubleshooting, I would start by checking for voltage at the motor red wire and working backward.

Mike, Thanks. Does anything change in the troubleshooting giving that when the a/c is off and the blower position switch is in low nothing is blowing. Could I have a bad blower motor? Scott

Check for voltage on the red wire on FL1. If present, likely a bad motor. If not. check voltage om wire H29A16; if that's good likely a bad filter.
