Amber and I live near Derby, Kansas, just south of Wichita. Amber is an instructor at FlightSafety International, former Reno Pitts Racer, and now my wife.Amber’s grandmother flew as did both of her parents.
I grew up in airplanes. We had Barons and Bonanzas when I was a kid. I have great memories flying with my dad and granddad in Barons all over the southwestern United States buying cattle and equipment and going to our other farms and ranches. We often landed on county roads and highways hauling parts and food for our harvest crews. I learned to fly on our southwest Kansas farm in a Super Cub when I was way too young. Off airport landings were a big part of the curriculum. I got a lot of my ratings in an M model Bonanza. I have been an airline pilot, a factory test pilot, did a few airshows in my clipped wing Cub years ago, and now I have my own business flying and testing business jets. My dad still owns a beautiful 1978 V35B. My mom’s parents both flew – as well as mom. Everyone in my family flew.
